EDUCATOR CURATOR ARTIST RESEARCHER
The Arts Work. For everything.
Understanding the importance of art to our humanity and how art was an integral part of culture got me started on this wonderful and meandering road of Arts Education. My experiences include floral design, teaching art in a public school 6-12, working as a teaching artist K-12, arts administration at arts non profits including a site specific dance organization, and co-founding an arts organization in NYC, where we focused on literacy, conflict management, professional development and teaching artists in the schools. My work also included time in Education at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. I hold a B.A. in Studio Art and a Masters Degree in Art and Arts Education from Columbia University. After travels through ten countries in Europe and across the United States, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa (Sierra Leone and Togo), working with community development in literacy, farming and cacao production, as well as teaching art to blind children in Kpalime, Togo.
Through further work in the non profit sector, I have curated over 85 exhibitions and developed countless community arts education programs working with communities, artists, administrators, grantors, and whoever wanted to participate in making our world and immediate environment better through the arts.
Not to mention pop-up art spaces, mini conferences, and other co-created events and experiences that served our community. We are currently working on ways to serve our community through Legacy Work.
Because the Arts Work.
I am a first generation artist who explores place and memory through both conceptual and craftmaking approaches. My work is held in private collections across the United States, Australia, Canada, Finland, Japan, Norway, and United Kingdom.
I currently live in Oregon with a bunch of boys, and a goofball cat.
